Scale of the Day: A Phrygian mapped to the 3/2

<span class=

The A Phrygian mapped to the 3/2 Scale. 3/2-based scales are another interesting animal without the physical width problem of the triative. The 3/2 is another interval that one is willing to hear as "strongly related" nearly to the point of harmonic equivalence. The challenge for the composer/improviser then is to treat the 3/2 as such in practice and allow the harmonic qualities to come out. The Phrygian scale mapped to this terrain does retain much of its darker shades in this example.
